The Deathstalker series, preluded by the Twilight of the Empire novellas, introduces us to Owen Deathstalker, the reluctant clan heir who must lead the rebellion against the corrupt and powerful empire, following the murder of his father. Green has gone on to write many more short stories, plus novels that make up a number of series. The following year, 1989, he was commissioned to write the novelization of the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner, which went on to sell over 370,000 copies. This was indeed a good year, as after three and a half years of unemployment, Green had also started working for a bookshop in Bath at this time. However, it was not until 1988 that Green’s writing career really took off, when he sold a remarkable seven novels in that year. It took a further three years before selling his first full-length work, Awake, Awake, Ye Northern Winds. Green began his writing career while a student in London in 1973, but it was not until 1976 that he sold his first story, Manslayer. Having studied history aswell, Simon R Green has an impressive academic background. He gained an M.A in modern English and American Literature at the University of Leicester, and also has a combined humanities degree to his name. Born in 1955 in Bradford-Upon-Avon, Wiltshire, where he still lives, he has become a prolific author of his genre. Green is a bestselling British author of sci-fi and fantasy.
